Whether people choose to label Thierry Henry a cheat or not really doesn’t matter because him and his France team are going to the World Cup and that’s all that matters to him. But what should matter is how football goes forward from this and the only way forward is by introducing video technology. Henry isn’t the first to use his hand (Diego Maradona’s hand of God will never be forgotten) but Fifa should take the necessary procedures to try and make sure he is the last.

Referees and officials are only human and are prone to mistakes like the rest of us and they won’t be able to see everything on the pitch which is why I believe they need the help of video replays to get decisions that they are unsure about, right. Rugby, Cricket and Tennis have embraced technology and it has worked a treat for them and has improved their sports a great deal so why is it hard for football to take that same route?

There are a minority of people who are against the idea of video technology being introduced into football because they feel that teams will try to take advantage of it to try and get every wrong decision to go their way such as a throw in or a corner. But the replays should only be used in extreme cases such as whether the ball has crossed the line or for a goal that clearly shouldn’t stand for a legitimate reason and this debate will rage on until Fifa decide to do something about it and until they do these incidents and debates will continue to ruin the image of football.
